Dr. Joel Edman is a Clinical Nutritionist, Certified Health Coach, Educator, and Integrative Health Consultant with 30 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience.
He is the Founder and Director of Edman Wellness Services in Media, PA, where he maintains his private practice and consulting practice.
Dr. Edman specializes in teaching and coaching employees, clients, the public, and practitioners about the most effective use of nutritional and integrative or Functional Medicine therapies for everything from chronic and complex symptoms and disorders to wellness and disease prevention. His primary areas of clinical expertise are in gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders and neuropsychological disorders.
In 2017, Dr. Edman was the lead author of “Perceived stress in patients with common gastrointestinal disorders: associations with quality of life, symptoms and disease management,” published in Explore. His current passion is the great potential that health coaching practice has to help transform healthcare and the health outcomes of people with chronic and complex disorders.
Joel was the Director of Integrative Nutrition and Associate Research Director for the Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA for over 11 years.
He received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Drexel University and his Doctorate in Nutritional Sciences from Boston University. His doctoral research was on nutritional influences on depression and cognitive function in geriatric inpatients of McLean Hospital, Harvard’s psychiatric hospital.
He is also a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition and a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS). Dr. Edman has authored or co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters.
