What is Conscious Loving? You might find that intentions of conscious loving are much different from what many people would choose as their intentions for their relationship. Conscious loving involves being honest with your feelings and needs while simultaneously paying attention to others in a respectful and emphatic way. Consciously loving is all about communication, acceptance and being present.
Communication Is Key
Every person has their values and standards. It’s unreasonable to expect the other to act in the way you would. Being honest and open about your emotions and feelings is way more effective to connect your needs for understanding. You might find how hard it is to find your own needs and emotions to express yourself without blaming on the other. The focus is to clarify your feelings and needs. We don’t know how the other person feels or what they need. That’s why it’s important to address your speech based on what you can really take responsibility for: yourself.
Accept Who They Are
It’s easy for us to try to impose our own worldview on those around us, thinking that our point of view is more important, more insightful, or more enlightened than those with differing opinions. When you accept people for who they are and what they think, you let go of your desire to change them. You let them feel the way they want to feel, you let them be different and think differently from you. Everyone is different in one way or another, the only person you can truly change is yourself.
The Art Of Being Present
With our busy lives, we’re always ticking boxes off a long list and thinking about the next thing we have to get done. We’re constantly in doing mode. Sometimes it can feel like a burden or an annoyance to have to stop, even momentarily, for the people we love. Crazy right? Becoming present requires a certain level of self-awareness.It is about putting aside your own thoughts, worries, fears, and insecurities and genuinely taking an interest in what that person is saying.
When you press pause—physically and mentally—and hold a space for a person to express themselves fully, that person feels valued, heard, seen, and loved. Conscious loving takes time and patience, but once you get into the habit of it, you’ll find a deeper meaning and appreciation for your relationships.
