We’re excited to announce a powerful new addition to the FMCA curriculum: Labs and Biomarkers for Personalized Coaching!

As health coaches continue to play an expanding role in personalized, root-cause care, we are committed to equipping our students with the tools and confidence to collaborate on deeper levels. This new curriculum content reflects that mission.
About the Labs Module
This month of our Health Coach Certification Program equips health coaches with advanced tools to personalize client care through the lens of functional health data. Integrating insights from genetics and epigenetics, gut and stool biomarkers, and metabolic lab results, participants will learn how to utilize complex biological information and translate it into meaningful, client-centered strategies. Emphasis is placed on empowering coaches to support individualized health goals through science-informed, holistic approaches.
What FMCA Students Will Learn
Through this new content, students will be able to:
- Explain how to communicate effectively about lab results to promote informed choices and client autonomy in decision-making
- Understand how genetic and epigenetic data inform personalized coaching
- Utilize gut and stool biomarker data to support digestive health
- Apply lab-based insights to help clients set and reach metabolic health goals
- Describe how to recognize patterns and trends in lab data to support client-centered lifestyle change within the coaching scope of practice

Why Health Coaches Need To Understand Labs
Health coaches play a key role in helping clients understand and apply practitioner-led lab insights in a way that supports behavior change, accountability, and long-term success. While health coaches do not diagnose or interpret lab results, they help clients turn those results into action.
As more healthcare teams look to coaches to support precision wellness strategies, having foundational knowledge about labs and biomarkers gives FMCA graduates a professional edge.
Furthermore, as Direct-to-consumer (DTC) Lab Testing options continue to grow, Functional Medicine Certified Health Coaches will be well prepared to meet the support needs of clients who have ordered them

What This Means for Enrolled Students
If you are a current student, you will find this new module in your online learning platform. If you are considering enrolling, this new addition is now part of your educational journey with FMCA.
At FMCA, we don’t just train health coaches, we prepare change agents. The addition of labs and biomarkers to our curriculum reflects the future of healthcare: one that is personalized, data-informed, and rooted in meaningful human connection. As an FMCA student or graduate, you are not only learning the science, you are learning how to translate it into real impact. This is what sets our coaches apart, and why they are increasingly in demand in clinical, corporate, and entrepreneurial settings.
