Chronic Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is a low-grade activation of the immune system that continues over time, typically in the absence of an immediate threat. Acute inflammation is short-term and protective; it’s when your body senses an immediate threat and jumps into action. Chronic inflammation happens when the body’s inflammatory response remains “on,” often at a low level, and can begin to affect normal tissue function. Chronic inflammation involves ongoing signaling between the immune system, metabolic pathways, and the gut microbiome.

Factors such as blood sugar dysregulation, chronic stress, disrupted sleep, environmental exposures, and microbial imbalance can all contribute to this sustained inflammatory state. Over time, these signals can influence how cells communicate, repair, and regulate themselves, creating conditions that may impact multiple systems in the body.

Why is chronic inflammation a concern for long-term health?

Inflammation is part of the body’s communication system, and when it remains elevated, it can begin to disrupt normal signaling and recovery processes.
